Mirror Mirror by Marilyn Singer

 

This is a really clever book.  The poet takes common fairy tales and tells the story in poems.  But the poems are very unique.  Each poem is then reversed and still makes sense.  How creative is that?  At the end, the poet gives direction about how to write reverso poems.  Here is the first set of poems from the book.

In Reverse

Who                                                                                                Something new

says                                                                                                 is

it's true-                                                                                           up.

down                                                                                               You

is                                                                                                     will challenge

the only view?                                                                                 this poem

If you believe that,                                                                          if you believe that

this poem                                                                                        the only view

will challenge                                                                                 is

you.                                                                                                 down.

Up                                                                                                   It's true.

is                                                                                                     Says

something new.                                                                              who?
