REVIEW: Talia has been warned all her life not to touch a spindle but she is tricked into doing it anyway. Three hundred years later, Jack is on a boring trip to European museums and tries to escape to the beach for just one day. Unfortunately, Jack and his friend Travis get lost and end up in a strange area with a castle and a bunch or medieval looking people sleeping. After wandering around, Jack and Travis find a "hot" girl sleeping in the castle. Jack can't resist kissing her and of course, that kiss wakes her up. Was it "true love's first kiss" though or just a mistake. Talia's father is furious with the state of his kingdom after three hundred years and Talia decides to run away with Jack. Much of the book is set in Miami where Talia tries to get used to modern life and get Jack to fall in love with her in order to prevent Malvolia from taking her and finishing her revenge. In the end, Jack must face several trials and his dragon in order to rescue his princess.
OPINION: I am a big fan of fairy tale retellings and this one did not disappoint. It is definitely for the higher end of tween readers and up because of the romance and a little language. I thoroughly enjoyed Alex Flinn's humorous take on Sleeping Beauty.
