Honestly I probably wouldn't have read this, but the sequel, Shakespeare Makes the Play Offs, is a Maine Student Book Award nominee. I can't read a sequel without reading the first book. I liked it. I have read a lot of poetry books as novels (Love That Dog, Out of the Dust, etc) and it seems like I have read a lot lately about boy writers or boy poets and child living with single mom or dad but even with all those elements the book worked. It was interesting and fun with a side of poetry. Now I can read the sequel and see if it is worthy or my Maine Student Book Award vote.
