Drawing from Memory by Allen Say

This book is an autobiographical account of Allen Say's journey to becoming an illustrator.  Growing up his father did not approve of his illustrations.  When he was 12 he moved into an apartment by himself, attended a private school, and was taken on as an apprentice by a famous cartoonist in Japan.  Many of the illustrations in this book are from the early cartoons and then pictures from his memories of that time.  There is a lot of buzz about this book both for Caldecott and Newbery.  It is not a very long book and would be a great addition to a study of Allen Say's other works.
