This is another nominee for the Maine Student Book Award. It is very long (477 pages) but I listened to it on cd. I had enjoyed the Spiderwick Chronicles so I was excited about this book but the size was a bit discouraging. I loved it!! I was a little surprised at times at how violent it was but since it's a fantasy it doesn't seem as bad. I made sure to look at the illustrations in the book every once and a while and the map so I could follow some of the events better. The book had a satisfying and yet cliffhanger ending...I am looking forward to reading the sequel. I fear that not enough kids will have time to read this book so it won't get the love it deserves. There is a website and an interactive section but I couldn't get it to work. Try it out, it's worth it.
