This book is based on the true story of Kathy Kacer's mother Gabi. During World War II Gabi lived in Czechoslovakia and her family was Jewish. The family worked on a farm and kept hoping that things would get better but as the years passes and the war got closer and closer they knew plans would have to be made to protect themselves. After Gabi's father died, Gabi and her mother heard that soldiers were taking Jewish girls to labor camps. Gabi and her mom decided that if soldiers ever came she would hide in a dresser. The first time she practiced hiding in the dresser she panicked and came out early. But, when the soldiers actually came, she was able to stay in the dresser by remembering a lullaby her father had always sung.
