Salman doesn't really fit in. He is a foster child who has been moved around a lot. He has a crow for a friend and an unusual "guardian". Fortunately he meets Lu who is assigned to be his mentor at school. She and Blos, another unusual character who had met Lu the year before when they had they same mentor, become friends with Salman. Interspersed in the book are conversations between King Oberon, Queen Titiana, and Puck who are characters from the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It might be helpful to have some knowledge of the play in order to understand the book a little better. We have several copies of the play in the library including a picture book retelling by Bruce Coville.
