The Inorrigibile Children of Ashton Place: The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood

If I were to judge a book by its cover I probably wouldn't have picked this up.  But, the book is up for the Maine Student Book Award so I decided to read it.  Miss Penelope Lumley has just graduated from the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females and agrees to be the governess for three children sight unseen.  When she does meet then they are in the barn and all behave as wolves.  Where did the children come from and why do they behave this way?  The reader never actually finds out.  But, we watch Cassiopeia, Beowolf, and Alexander learn and grow.  The mistress, of the house, Lady Constance, wants the children to be properly behaved at her Christmas Ball but when a squirrel is introduced to the party all bets are off.  It appears that there will be more to the series so perhaps the reader will find out more about the Incorrigible Children.
